My new Etsy shop – Lady Mondegreen

I’ve finally got round to opening (and blogging about it!) a jewellery shop on etsy – Lady Mondegreen. My evenings have been spent making pieces (well not every evening because I do Zumba, play on the PS3 as well as surf the internet a lot) and learning about selling on Etsy. Mr C even made me a light box so I can take decent photos. I’ve still got a lot to learn about the whole process but I have made one sale which made me ecstatic!

Why the name Lady Mondegreen?
mondegreen [ˈmɒndɪˌgriːn]
A mondegreen is the mishearing of a phrase in a way that gives it a new meaning usually with an amusing result. American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term in her essay “The Death of Lady Mondegreen,” published in Harper’s Magazine in November 1954.

Phrases.org says:
“When I was a child, my mother used to read aloud to me from Percy’s Reliques. One of my favorite poems began, as I remember:

Ye Highlands and ye Lowlands,
Oh, where hae ye been?
They hae slain the Earl Amurray,
And Lady Mondegreen.”

The actual words of the ballad are:

“Ye Highlands and Ye Lowlands,
O where hae ye been?
They hae slain the Earl of Moray,
And hae laid him on the green”

The name Lady Mondegreen is a nod to my own partial deafness and subsequent misinterpretations!

japanese washi tape – part 1

I have a new fetish – japanese washi tape. I’ve always had a thing for stationery, in particular Japanese stationery. Washi tape is a masking tape that comes in a range of colours and patterns – stripes, polka dots, grids or plain . It is easy to tear by hand, write on and doesn’t leave any tackiness behind after removal and can even be used again and again. Washi tape is translucent making it pefect for layering. It is ideal for colour coding, labelling, gift wrapping and collages. You can buy rolls and rolls of it on etsy and also at happy tape, cute tape. paper nation. This collector’s guide is for hardcore fans.

So apart from looking at it what can you do with it? Here are my favourites:

pretty pendant

Pretty Pendant, originally uploaded by welovepandas.

I treated myself to this pretty pendant available from People Tree. It’s been reduced in the January Sale and you can feel safe in the knowledge that it is a fairly traded item.
