This is going to be the saddest blog I think I may ever write.

My mum died very unexpectedly on Tuesday. She felt ill with what they thought was flu at the weekend and the doctor was called out and she was taken to hospital in an ambulance. A few hours later she died. My dad was with her. They think she died of some virus maybe menningitus but they will have to do a post mortem and maybe an inquest. We are so in shock. She was only 57. She’s never really been ill in her life.

I was so looking forward to her being at the wedding in a posh frock. Just the other day I was looking in the shops for an outfit for her. She was so kind and selfless and caring. My dad is in bits. He thinks we should go ahead with the wedding (in August) and C and I agree, we reckon mum would too.

I’m hoping a few friends might see this because I don’t feel up to phoning or emailing anyone at the moment.

intention to marry

We went to the registry office Saturday morning and gave notice of our intent to marry. This is a procedure you must go through if you are having a civil wedding in the UK. We only needed a passport each, proof of address and a fee of £30 each. Good job a birth certificate isn’t required as my parents have lost it. I know you can get a replacement fairly easily but C’s passport is running out and the Registrar for the wedding isn’t confirmed until you have given your notice of intent to marry. So I just wanted to get on with it and we are now another stage nearer to getting married.

The registry lady was very friendly and chatty but made a few typos on the computer screen in front of us. She typed my place of birth as “wearrington” instead of “Warrington”. She also typed in C’s year of birth as 1992 instead of 1982 which would have been interesting if he hadn’t spotted it. I worked out he’d be 16, so just legal but would make me a cradle-snatcher.

She also typed “Register Office” as “ReFister Office” which could have raised some eyebrows. Although not as many as if she had also typed “Office” as “Orifice”.
