hemp milk maker

hempforblog.jpg

I bought myself a hemp milk maker and the results are fantastic!

I was drinking cartons of shop bought soya milk which I enjoyed the taste of but I was alerted by a news article that it might be the cause of the intestinal discomfort I was suffering from. So I dumped the soya and went back to organic cow’s milk. I didn’t really want to stay drinking that stuff, although I’m not vegan, so I “shelled out” (haha gettit?) for a yaoh hemp milk maker. Hemp milk tastes sort of nutty but good.

Hemp seeds are incredibly good for you and have “an ideal balance of Omega 3 and 6 for sustainable human health… a full amino acid spectrum meaning it provides complete protein, and it has a massive trace mineral content – truly one of nature’s superfoods.”

How to make hemp milk using your yaoh hemp milk maker:
Pour water in to the level indicated on the jug. Measure out 100gr of hemp seeds in the measuring cup that comes with the hemp milk maker and pour them into the shoot. Plug in and press the “mode” button twice and voila you have delicious and nutricious milk!

I soaked my hemp seeds for 6 hours but you can leave them soaking overnight or up to 24 hours. You can make milk instantly without soaking first but it’s better to soak them to release the trypsin inhibitors. By doing this you are making your hemp seeds more bio-available and therefore getting more nutrients.

rennet bars

Mars are no longer veggie
Mars, Milky Way, Bounty, Snickers, Galaxy, Twix and Maltesers are no longer vegetarian! Masterfoods (the owner of Mars) decided to use non-vegetarian whey which uses rennet – the lining of a cow’s stomach.

Then it turns out Masterfoods are reversing their decision as a result of lots of angry vegetarians complaining.

In the interest of your health you are better to stay away from this rubbish anyway but it’s good they changed their minds.

i’m gutted

Neighbours is to move from the BBC to Five. I’m sad because our reception of channel five is appalling. Looks like I might have to invest in a freeview box.

i’m not a plastic bag

Didn’t get your grubby paws on an Anya Hindmarch bag? They were made in China and were packaged in a plastic bag. You better rethink your green credentials Anya and Sainsburys.

Get one of these instead I’m not an Anya Hindmarch bag for £12 or a I’m not a plastic bag – I’m hemp bag for £9.50 or what about I’m not a smug twat bag for £15

I much prefer this retro looking shopper from howies at only £5.00 (which is sold out boohoo). via hippyshopper

foody news

Hemp milk is very good for you but soya milk may make you fart. Apprently it’s the “oligosaccharides which cause flatulence and stomach distress”. I did wonder what my problem was.

The evolution of mealtimes

From the Middle Ages to the age of Shakespeare, there are scattered references to occasional extra meals, called luncheon and nuntion or nuncheon. Nuntion was eaten between dinner and supper, and peasants were sometimes guaranteed nuntions of ale and bread on those days they worked harvesting the fields in the lengthy days of late summer and autumn, when sunset and supper came many hours after noon and dinner. Luncheon seems to have been eaten between breakfast and dinner, when dinner was delayed. Luncheon was taken mainly by ladies and was not a large meal. It was more of a snack on those days when they had to wait for a late dinner due to the political or sporting affairs of their husbands.

coconut oil the smart fat?

The Smarter Fat That Helps Promote Weight Loss. Coconut oil has had a bad reputation (due to its saturated fat content and propaganda) in the past but it looks like that may be all wrong. Mercola (a doctor) believes that coconut oil actually promotes a healthy heart and increases your metabolism. He also says that coconut oil supports your immune system because it contains lauric acid (found in breast milk) and can help to keep your skin looking young.

I bought a jar of coconut oil from my local organic shop oragnic fair and have been making my own raw chocolate. I take a teaspoon of coconut oil (not level!), a teaspoon of organic agave syrup, a teaspoon of yacon powder and 1-2 teaspoons of raw cocoa powder (both from raw intent which I promise I have no affiliation with, I just love their products). This produces a nice sweet tasting paste of which I savour every spoonful. It doesn’t make much but you really don’t feel like more, something that never happens with “regular” choc which I could easily devour heaps and then feel throughly sick. The agave syrup and yacon powder sweeten the chcocolate eithout significantly raising blood sugar levels because they both have a low glycemic index. Yacon powder also helps the growth of intestinal flora. Raw cocoa powder is packed with antioxidants (about seven times as many antioxidants than if it was cooked), magnesium, sulphur, trytophan (makes you feel good), phenylethylamine, arginine (an amino acid). It’s hard to believe something so tasty is good for you.
