dad’s accident

As if our family didn’t have enough people in hospital, my dad has become the fourth family member to go into hospital this year. Yesterday my dad was up a tree in the garden sawing off branches and a large branch knocked him off the ladder. He fell onto the ground and dislocated his hip, fractured his pelvis and bruised his shoulder. He fell onto his chainsaw, which thankfully had cut out. My mum saw the accident as she was in the garden too but I was away at C’s for the weekend. The ambulance team were superb, arriving very quickly and doing their job brilliantly (so I am told).
My dad is lucky really as he hasn’t done any damage to his spine or internal organs. He’s had an operation to put his hip back in place and he is traction. He will need another operation, in the next few weeks, for his pelvis. It’s odd that his mother, my nan, is still downstairs in the hospital while my dad is upstairs. It looks like Christmas Day this year will be spent visiting the family in hospital!

harry potter

C and I went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on Sunday at the cinema. It is aesthetically spectacular and the special effects are amazing. A feast for the eyes. My only criticism is that a lot of the book’s subplots were cut out due to time constraints. It was sad to see no house elves, Mrs Weasley or most of the Quidditch World Cup. In my eyes the books will always be better than the films but I think the films are very well done and serve as a visually stimulating accompaniment.

Interesting facts about the film from IMDB

“A digital “spot removing” technique (which had previously been used for such TV shows as “Desperate Housewives” (2004) was applied in post-production to clear up some of the more severe teen skin problems, since make-up tested poorly for close-up shots in particular” As I sat watching the film I wondered how they had picked a lot of teenagers with remarkably clear skin.

Daniel Radcliffe suffered two ear infections following the underwater filming.

poorly nan

My nan has been in hospital again for a few weeks with god knows what. She was discharged on Wednesday despite having a chest infection. A carer was coming round to her bungalow to helping her wash and “meals on wheels” were being delivered. Early on Thursday morning, at about 2am we get a phonecall that my gran had fallen off her chair and was unable to stand up. She raised the alarm with her special care alarm which find out if you need an amubulance or they ring a reletive. My dad rushed round and helped nan up and then he stayed the night. My dad left the next day, thinking that she’d be ok as the carer and doctor were coming in to check up. The doctor found my nan slumped in a chair where she’d gone into hypoglycemic shock. Her blood sugar levels were dangerously low and she slipped in and out of unconciousness. Thank god the doctor was there and he bundled her off to hospital. I’ve just found out she also has MRSA also known as the “superbug” which has featured heavily in the news because many patients contract it whilst in hospital. I have no idea how fatal this is.

Clearing out

clearing-out.jpg

This sign is currently hanging in the shop window where I work. The ambiguous wording is a ploy to get more customers in the shop and it works as sales increase when it is displayed. What annoyes me is the constant barrage of “Are you closing down?” Where on the sign does it say we are closing down? It doesn’t, it merely says we are trying to shift stock and we want all the stock to go, which if you think about it, is what all shops want. Today I was asked five times if we are closing and this happens on a daily basis which drives me crazy.

red panda

Red panda on the run in Birmingham

“Birmingham residents have been urged to keep an eye out for a red panda who disappeared from a nature centre two days ago.

If found or spotted, do not approach but call us immediately on 0121 454 7810 so we can get the little chap safely back home to his brother who is now pining for his sibling.”

I hope I find him in my garden, I’d love to hold a little red panda.
