Zoo ology

Zoology by Joelle Jolivet is a large book standing at 18 inches tall and cram-packed with beautiful artwork. Each double-spread page has many illustrations of animals that look like linocut drawings.  The animals have been categorized into unusual and creative ways: in the trees, black and white, feathered, spots and stripes, on the seabed and so on which invite the reader to find their own similarities. I bought this for Darwin as I thought he’d enjoy seeing all the different animals but it’s a book that I hope will continue to provide pleasure as he gets older. Young readers can gaze at the pictures and learn the names and noises while older readers can find out useful information about the animals at the back of the book. Zoology is stunning to look at and is a refreshing take on the usual animal books and should appeal to all ages.
